There is a severe shortage of quality areas for personal reading and self-study activity in Singapore.
Public libraries are already very packed and as an alternative to our homes, community centres in high-density housing locations are the next best location for learning and self-improvement for students and adults.
However, most community centres do not have properly set-up reading or study rooms. If there are, the use of the rooms is chargeable and even so, the centres are unable to advise the public on the availability of the rooms because of the daily crowd.
Self-improvement is a key issue for Singapore residents.
Community centres are the logical places to go, whether for social or learning activities, individually or in groups.
It is time to set up proper reading and study areas in the centres, available for residents' free use.
