SINGAPORE - The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has unveiled almanac coins for the 2017 Year of the Rooster, to be made available in 10 different versions including a 1kg rectangular coin, MAS said in a release on Monday (Nov 28).

The coins are the inaugural issue in the fourth Chinese almanac coin series, which will span over 12 years, from 2017 to 2028, with each year's issue depicting a zodiac animal in a park or natural landscape setting in Singapore.

Featuring the rooster with Kampong Buangkok, Singapore's last surviving village, in the background, the coins will bear the Singapore Coat of Arms with the year 2017 on the other side.

Ten different versions will be available minted on 999 fine silver, the release added. Special premium sets consisting of various coin combinations will also be available to the public.

The coins will be issued on Jan 1, 2017 and sold by The Singapore Mint for orders reaching them before Dec 16. A balloting will be held in case of oversubscribtion. The Lunar Rooster Coins are also available in premium sets, the MAS release said.
