JAPAN (REUTERS) - It might be the sweetest luxury gift item this holiday season.

Nestle will offer a limited supply of gold-wrapped Kit Kat bars.

Only 500 gold-leaf chocolate bars will be sold in Japan. And they will go on sale in late December, just before the start of the new year.

The price - 2016 yen (S$23.38).

Nestle says the gold-wrapped Kit Kat is truly the gift that will keep on giving.

"When you presents a Kit Kat wrapped with gold, you're actually making the very best wish for a prosperous new year," said Alex Villela, Executive Manager of Nestle Japan.

No need to unwrap the gold-covered Kit Kat bar too, because the thin gold leaf is completely edible.

It could be the perfect gift for someone with a taste for the good life.
