Tension grips Mumbai as an angry mob indulge in arson after a morphed photograph of religious structure surfaces on social media.

MUMBAI, INDIA (REUTERS) - Tension gripped Mumbai on Saturday (March 18) as an angry mob indulged in arson after a morphed photograph of a religious structure surfaced on social media.

The angry mob set police vehicles on fire and vandalized the Trombay police station as it went on a rampage. The police station is located 300 meters away from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) headquarters.

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Lohia said the man who posted the morphed image has been arrested.

According to local media reports, a policeman was also injured in the chaos.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up around the police station with around 100 armed policemen deployed to prevent any incidents.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
