JOHOR BARU (The Star/Asia News Network) - A 19-year-old from Kelantan was sentenced to one year's jail on Tuesday (June 7) after he pleaded guilty to 14 charges for insulting the Johor royal family on Facebook.

Muhammad Amirul Azwan Mohd Shakri, who was clad in a brown T-shirt and a pair of jeans, appeared frail as he pleaded guilty to each of the 14 charges read out to him before Sessions judge Sabariah Atan.

The charges said he posted the insulting comments and replies with the intention of hurting the feelings of others on a Facebook page called TRW Troll Story using the name "Miyo Castello" between March and April this year.

He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which stipulates a maximum RM50,000 fine or up to one year's jail, or both, for violators.

The youth was seen breaking down in tears and dropping back down onto his seat feebly when the judge meted out a sentence of a year in jail for each of the 14 offences, New Straits Times reported.

The sentences are to be carried out concurrently from the date of his arrest on April 28.
