US President-elect Donald Trump may not be the most well-received man in China after accusing Beijing of currency manipulation and stealing American jobs.

But his five-year-old granddaughter Arabella Kushner has won Chinese hearts after a February video of her reciting ancient Chinese poetry resurfaced on China's social media.

The video was trending on Sina Weibo soon after Mr Trump was announced as President-elect last Wednesday (Nov 10), with many users praising Arabella as "surprisingly cute and impressive", reported Global Times, an English-language Chinese newspaper.

In the video, Arabella appears wearing a traditional qipao and stands on a table to recite works by famed Chinese poets such as Li Bai.

Arabella, who is the daughter of Trump's eldest daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, has been studying Chinese since she was 18 months old, according to the Daily Mail.

The clip was originally filmed and uploaded on Ivanka's Instagram account on Feb 10, the day before the start of the Chinese Year of the Monkey. The Year of the Monkey ends on Jan 27, 2017.

Chinese netizens warmed up to little Arabella.

"I really hope the little angel falls in love with Chinese culture, quite exciting," wrote a user named Orange.

Another felt that it reflected the importance of education placed in the Trump family.

"At least the video shows that Trump places importance on education and did not shut the door on foreign culture," posted user stAu79.

An earlier Instagram post by Ivanka in 2014 with the caption "Sunday morning Chinese lesson! Arabella's working hard!" also showed Arabella practising her Mandarin when she was two-and-a-half years old.

Arabella is one of Mr Trump's eight grandchildren. She has two siblings - Joseph Frederick, 3, and Theodore James, who was born in March this year.

Mr Trump's eldest son Donald Trump Jr. has five children with wife Vanessa: daughters Kai, 9, and Chloe Sophia, 2, and sons Donald John Trump III, 7, Tristan Milos, 5, and Spencer Frederick, 4.

His second son Eric Trump married Lara Yunaska in 2014 and they do not have any children. Mr Trump's other children are Tiffany, 23, and Barron, 10.
