Taiwanese performers show off tricks using traditional toy

A group of men in Taiwan help to keep the tradition of 'spinning tops' alive, performing impressive tricks in front of children and adults alike.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (Reuters) - A group of traditional spinning top artists in New Taipei City captivated their audience at a local temple, performing feats of target shooting and other tricks.

Spinning tops, known as "gan le" in Taiwanese are an ancient tradition.

The tops are set in motion by players throwing them into the distance while simultaneously inducing rotation by unwinding a string curled around the pointy base.
