TOKYO - Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Mrs Lee were hosted to a private lunch by Japan's royal couple at their residence in the Imperial Palace on Tuesday (Sept 27).

They were last hosted by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to tea in March 2007.

Mr Lee arrived in Tokyo on Monday for a four-day official visit that marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan.

Earlier on Tuesday, a group of Singapore politicians met young politicians from Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) for lunch. The delegation comprised Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin, Senior Ministers of State Josephine Teo and Sim Ann, as well as North West District Mayor Teo Ho Pin and Member of Parliament Zainal Sapari.

The LDP politicians were State Minister for Finance Taku Otsuka, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshinao Nakagawa, as well as LDP Lower House members Yasuhide Nakayama, Keisuke Suzuki, Keitaro Ohno and Miki Yamada.

The Singapore Prime Minister will meet members of the Japan-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship League on Tuesday afternoon. In the evening, he will attend a Singapore National Day reception where he will meet Singaporeans residing in Tokyo.
