Former Taiwan president Ma Ying-jeou pays respects to former Singapore president S R Nathan in Taipei

TAIPEI - Former Taiwan president Ma Ying-jeou dropped by the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei on Thursday (Aug25) to pay his last respects to former Singapore president S R Nathan, bowing three times.

Paying tribute to Mr Nathan's dedication to Singapore, Mr Ma penned his condolence message in Chinese calligraphic script, which read: "Effort for the country, enjoyed by all."

Mr Ma, however, declined to speak to reporters.

Former premier Su Tseng-chang, the previous chairman of the island's Democratic Progressive Party, also paid his last respects to Mr Nathan.
