‘It was only about 5 minutes, but it felt like an eternity’: Hotel staff lauded for saving choking girl

While cleaning a check-out room, Liyan found an envelope containing a large sum of money on
the floor under the sofa chair. Liyan immediately reported her find to her Housekeeping Manager.
The cash amounting to $10,023.70 was eventually returned to the grateful guest upon her return
to the hotel to collect their deposited luggage from the front desk the same afternoon.
The envelope contained cash comprising 94 pieces of $100, 12 pieces of $50, 2 pieces of $10, 1
piece of $2, 1 piece of $1, 1 piece of $0.50, and $0.20 x 1 piece.

Azhar was conducting CCTV surveillance when he spotted a male subject acting suspiciously in
front of one of the gates of the hotel’s premises. While monitoring the subject, Azhar discovered
that the subject had tailgated one of the hotel crew when entering the hotel. Azhar immediately
alerted an Auxiliary Police officer and a security officer to the location while he continued to
monitor the male subject’s movements via CCTV. The officers managed to detain the subject and
brought him for questioning.
However, the subject turned aggressive, and Azhar immediately called the Police for assistance.
Investigations revealed that the subject had encroached into one of the nearby boats and meddled
with some cans containing flammable liquid. The Police subsequently took over the situation.
Azhar’s vigilance and quick actions are to be lauded.

Hotel restaurant staff called the reception to request assistance for a choking guest. Kenneth and
his colleague quickly rushed to the scene.

The father of the subject informed Kenneth that his daughter, who was choking, was not breathing.
Kenneth noted that her lips had also turned purple. Kenneth calmly attempted to clear the airway
of the guest while asking his colleague to call 995.
The operator instructed Kenneth to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics
arrived. They took over the situation and thankfully, the subject’s life was saved..
