The largest party in Malaysia’s multi-coalition government is at a crossroads which will likely have ramifications on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

Tensions have risen ahead of next month’s Democratic Action Party (DAP) election that could see a changing of the guard with the families of party stalwarts Lim Kit Siang and the late Datuk Seri Karpal Singh finding themselves outside the top positions.

While these pioneering figures are widely respected among Datuk Seri Anwar’s core non-Muslim supporters, the Lims in particular, have become somewhat toxic figures for the crucial Malay majority. Though grateful for the family’s decades of service, some in the DAP believe it is time for Kit Siang’s son, former finance minister Lim Guan Eng, to move on.

Down in Johor, excitement is hotting up over the upcoming Rapid Transit System (RTS) link to Singapore with a new RM2.6 billion mixed-use development coming up around the Bukit Chagar terminal.

This should make the experience of using the RTS, expected by end-2026, smoother in terms of connecting to other transport nodes into Johor, especially with the planned Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
