SINGAPORE – All ActiveSG sport facilities resumed operations on Oct 17, as haze conditions eased slightly with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings across Singapore dipping back to the “unhealthy” range overnight.
A midnight haze advisory update on the ActiveSG Circle website – Sport Singapore’s online platform to promote participation in sports – said that the facilities will resume operations according to their respective operating hours.
It advised visitors to monitor prevailing air quality conditions and adjust their activities accordingly, with vulnerable groups encouraged to exercise extra caution when participating in outdoor activities. “SportSG will continue to monitor the haze situation closely and adjust operations where necessary,” the advisory said.
ActiveSG first announced the temporary closure of all outdoor and non-air-conditioned facilities at its sport centres in the south, east, west and central areas on Oct 15, when the PSI reached “very unhealthy” levels and hit 212 at noon that day.
The Kallang, in an Instagram story on the morning of Oct 17, said outdoor operations have resumed at some of its facilities, after they were suspended a day earlier because of air quality conditions.
The venues are: OCBC Aquatic Centre, Water Sports Centre, Kallang Football Hub, Kallang Tennis Hub outdoor courts and all outdoor community facilities.
In an Instagram update close to noon, The Kallang said the Water Sports Centre will suspend operations from 11am until further notice because of deteriorating visibility. Earlier, it had said that operations there will be conducted within a restricted water area, which will be monitored throughout the day.
“All other outdoor venues and community facilities remain open,” The Kallang said.
According to an announcement posted on its website, The Kallang said all outdoor activities will be suspended when the 24-hour PSI reaches “very unhealthy” levels, with readings between 201 and 300. All indoor and outdoor activities will be suspended when the 24-hour PSI reading exceeds 300.
It added that arrangements may vary depending on the nature of the event and prevailing conditions, and advised the public to check the latest updates and advisories for the respective events.
SAFRA Tampines on Oct 16 reopened all its outdoor sports facilities, which were temporarily closed a day earlier given the haze, it said on Facebook. However, outdoor facilities appeared to remain closed at other SAFRA clubhouses, including the ones at Toa Payoh, Jurong and Choa Chu Kang.
The Straits Times has contacted SAFRA for more information.
