Dear ST reader,
There’s been a whole lot of shaking going on in Johor.
The central region around Segamat and Kluang has experienced three minor earthquakes over the past week, with one resident likening the tremors to a dinosaur walking past her home.
Of course, with the region being less than 200km from Singapore, it has raised concerns about whether the island could be affected given that shocks were felt as far as Pahang and Negri Sembilan.
But these quakes registered four or less in magnitude and there has been no reported damage to buildings or public infrastructure, nor harm to persons so far.
Meanwhile, the state’s growing data centre sector is digging in its heels despite recent hikes in water and electricity costs. Some players are investing in their own private solutions like wastewater reclamation, similar to Singapore’s Newater technology.
For those visiting Johor, why not enjoy some of its famed coffee and local fare at air-conditioned kopitiams providing modern comforts with a dose of nostalgic. Several of these well-known chains have also spread their wings to places like Singapore and Australia.
Of course, there are things happening outside Johor too, including the upcoming PAS congress and Sabah elections.
