SINGAPORE - Hours before Russian forces invaded Ukraine on Feb 24, warning signals were flashing several thousand kilometres away at Microsoft's Threat Intelligence Centre, north of Seattle in Washington state in the United States.

These drew attention to a new round of offensive and destructive cyber attacks in Ukraine, targeting the country's digital infrastructure.
