This is the year of fire. From the Arctic to the Amazon, Indonesia and Australia, huge blazes razed forests and farmlands, destroying livelihoods and emitting massive amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2), the main greenhouse gas heating up the planet.

By the end of November, Brazil had recorded just over 195,000 hot spots for the year, with fires covering 30.55 million ha (about the size of Italy).
