Solar-powered plane has just one more stop to go

CAIRO • The Solar Impulse 2 landed in Cairo yesterday for its penultimate stop as the solar-powered plane nears the end of its marathon tour around the world.

After the two-day flight from Spain, just one last leg lies between it and its final destination, Abu Dhabi, where it started its odyssey in March last year. The aircraft landed in Spain last month, after completing the first solo transatlantic flight powered only by sunlight.


New law forces Uber to pull out of Hungary

BUDAPEST • Embattled US ride-hailing service Uber announced yesterday its first suspension in an EU country, saying it will halt operations in Hungary on July 24 because of new legislation making it "impossible" to operate.

The same day, a new law comes into force that allows the Hungarian authorities to block "a provider of taxi services operating without a proper dispatch centre" for up to one year. An Uber statement said the legislation "makes it impossible for Hungarian drivers, in spite of having licences and properly paying taxes, to use their own vehicles to make money".


Britain's Duchess of York gets university post

LONDON • Britain's Duchess of York has become the latest celebrity to receive a UK university post - named Visiting Professor of Philanthrepreneurship at University of Huddersfield - following her charity work in India. A university spokesman said Ms Sarah Ferguson was chosen to join its "inspiring group of visiting professors" due to her work with design and fashion students linked to charity work.
