Facebook under probe in Germany

BERLIN • German prosecutors are investigating Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and other company executives, a spokesman for the Munich prosecutor's office said on Friday, following a complaint alleging that the company broke national laws against hate speech and sedition by failing to remove racist postings.

Malaysian official deported from NZ

KUALA LUMPUR • A Malaysian military official who defaecated outside the home of a Wellington woman and was convicted of indecently assaulting her in 2014 has been deported from New Zealand, Malaysiakini reported. Muhammad Rizalman Ismail, 39, served a sentence of nine months under home detention.


Yingluck sells cheap rice to help farmers

BANGKOK • Ousted Thai leader Yingluck Shinawatra doled out sacks of rice to star-struck shoppers in Bangkok yesterday, in her latest move to outshine junta efforts to support farmers hit by a price plunge. Hundreds lined up as the 49-year-old sold bags of rice, priced at 20 baht (80 Singapore cents) a kilo, from a pickup truck.
