12 killed in Cameroon mosque suicide attack

YAOUNDE • A suicide bomber killed 12 worshippers in a mosque in northern Cameroon yesterday, officials said, in an area regularly targeted by Nigeria's Boko Haram forces.

The blast struck the mosque in the village of Kouyape, in Kolofata district, near the Nigerian border, during early morning prayers, a source said.


Keep wearing skullcap, says top French rabbi

MARSEILLE • France's Chief Rabbi Haim Korsia joined the ranks of Jewish leaders who on Tuesday rejected calls for Jewish men and boys to stop wearing skullcaps, or kippah, after a string of anti-Semitic attacks in Marseille.

The news came as a 15-year-old supporter of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria group - who slashed a Jewish teacher with a machete in the southern city - said he was "proud" of his actions.

Crush on actress helped bring down 'El Chapo'

MEXICO CITY • Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, 58, was infatuated with Kate del Castillo, a leading actress in his country, and his desire to see her again contributed to his downfall, officials said on Tuesday.

Guzman used the codename "hermosa", or beautiful, to refer to the actress, who acted as a drug lord in the TV series The Queen Of The South.
