US security adviser names his deputy

WASHINGTON • National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster has tapped Mrs Dina Powell to become his deputy, promoting the Cairo-born banker and policymaker to a key White House role.

Mr McMaster appointed Mrs Powell as deputy national security adviser with particular responsibility for developing strategy, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.


Queen signs bill for PM May's Brexit move

LONDON • Queen Elizabeth II yesterday signed a Bill empowering British Prime Minister Theresa May to trigger Article 50 of the European Union's Lisbon Treaty and begin the process of leaving the EU.

Mrs May has said she will send a letter to the European Council by the end of March informing it of Britain's decision to leave the bloc.
