Results of AirAsia crash probe out on Nov 25

JAKARTA• • Indonesia will announce on Nov 25 the results of an investigation into the AirAsia crash last year that killed 162 people, the committee probing the case said yesterday.

The Airbus A320-200 went down in the Java Sea on Dec 28 in stormy weather during a flight from Surabaya to Singapore.

Dr Balakrishnan to meet Spanish Foreign Minister

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will visit Spain from today to Wednesday.

He will meet Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jose Garcia-Margallo y Marfil in Madrid, according to a Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs press statement.

This will be Dr Balakrishnan's first meeting with the Spanish Foreign Minister. In addition, Dr Balakrishnan, who is also the Minister-in-charge of the Smart Nation Initiative, will attend the Smart Cities Expo World Congressbeing held on Tuesday and Wednesday in Barcelona.


Pilot in Pakistan plane mishap 'intoxicated'

ISLAMABAD• • The pilot of a Pakistan passenger plane that skidded off the runway last week was intoxicated, officials said yesterday, as the country's civil aviation authorities warned carriers not to let pilots fly drunk.

The Shaheen Airlines plane was landing in Lahore when one of its tyres burst, causing it to skid off the runway.

US blacklists N. Korean ambassador to Myanmar

WASHINGTON• • The United States Treasury blacklisted North Korea's ambassador in Myanmar last Friday, calling him a "facilitator" of Pyongyang's arms trading company Komid. The Treasury placed on its sanctions list Mr Kim Sok Chol, the ambassador, as well as Komid officials Ri Chong Chol and Kim Kwang Hyok.
