Princess cleared in fraud case

MADRID • Spain's Princess Cristina, sister of the King, has been absolved from charges of being accessory to tax fraud, following an investigation into her husband's financial affairs, judicial authorities said yesterday.

Princess Cristina's husband, Inaki Urdangarin, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison on charges of fraud and tax evasion.


Sea ice at poles hit record low

MIAMI • The amount of sea ice at the earth's poles fell to a record low for January, while the planet's temperatures last month were the third-highest in modern times, US government scientists have said.


Migrants storm Spanish border

MADRID • Around 500 sub-Saharan migrants stormed the border separating Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco early yesterday, emergency services said. Dozens of migrants, many with wounds from climbing over the 6m barbed wire fence, celebrated in the streets over reaching Europe.
