No evidence Obama wiretapped Trump

WASHINGTON • The US Justice Department has no evidence to support President Donald Trump's statement in March that phones in Trump Tower were wiretapped at the order of his predecessor Barack Obama before last year's election, according to a court filing.

There has never been any evidence to support Mr Trump's assertion on Twitter in March despite continued insistence from some conservative websites and commentators, it said.


Iran successfully tests air defence system

TEHERAN • Iran has tested its home-grown air defence system, designed to match the Russian S-300, the head of the Revolutionary Guards' air defence has said.

Brigadier-General Farzad Esmaili also told state broadcaster IRIB late on Saturday that Iran's first long-range missile defence system was due to be put into operation by March next year.


Pro-Macron MP charged over violent clash

PARIS • A Member of Parliament in French President Emmanuel Macron's party has been charged over a violent clash in Paris that left a rival Socialist official in hospital.

M'jid El Guerrab, 34, was accused of "voluntary violence with a weapon" after striking the official twice with a helmet on Wednesday.
