Nearly 1,000 killed by cholera outbreak

AMMAN • The death toll from a cholera outbreak is approaching 1,000 in war-devastated Yemen, with women and children accounting for half of the deaths, a senior United Nations official said.

"Time is running out to save people who are being killed or being starved, and now you have cholera as well adding to that complication," said Mr Jamie McGoldrick, UN humanitarian coordinator in Yemen.

Queen's Speech to take place on June 21

LONDON • The Queen's Speech - the presentation of Mrs Theresa May's new government's programme - will take place on Wednesday next week .

This means that the British Prime Minister has a few more days to try and close the deal with Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party, whose support she needs in Parliament.

The speech was originally slated for next Monday.
