NEW DELHI • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce his new Cabinet line-up today in a reshuffle to spur flagging growth and soothe increasing signs of social tension before state elections this year and the national vote in 2019.


N. Korea issue: Merkel calls for diplomacy

BERLIN • German Chancellor Angela Merkel said diplomacy is the best way to tackle the stand-off with North Korea, in contrast to US President Donald Trump, who dismissed the idea of further negotiations.

The Iran nuclear accord, which Germany helped negotiate, could be a model for engaging with Mr Kim Jong Un's regime, Dr Merkel said yesterday, four days after North Korea fired a missile over northern Japan.


S'pore-HK affirm close cooperation

HONG KONG • Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Manpower and Foreign Affairs Josephine Teo met Hong Kong Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung and Secretary for Labour and Welfare Law Chi Kwong on Friday during her visit to the city, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The two sides affirmed the longstanding and close cooperation between Singapore and Hong Kong, the ministry said.
