Israel strikes over 30 Gaza 'terror' targets
JERUSALEM • Israel's military struck more than 30 "military targets" in the Gaza Strip yesterday, the army said, after a barrage of rocket and mortar fire from the Palestinian enclave.

Afghan govt rapped over women's rights
KABUL • The United Nations in a report yesterday accused the Afghan state of violating women's rights by failing to prosecute criminal violence against them.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan report said a law protecting women from violence has been in place since 2009, but instead of enforcing it, the authorities were allowing informal mediation to resolve criminal cases.

Video of cop hitting woman sparks probe
NEW JERSEY • Police in the US state of New Jersey are investigating a viral video that shows an officer punching a woman's head at least twice on the beach before wrestling her into the sand over the weekend.
The officers involved in the woman's arrest have been reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
