Florida nursing home deaths under probe

MIAMI • Police are conducting a criminal investigation into the death of eight people in a Hollywood, Florida, nursing home after Hurricane Irma knocked out power to the facility. Three of the victims were found dead at the nursing home and the others died on the way to the hospital or after they arrived there, Hollywood Police Chief Tom Sanchez said.


Drug exec jailed over offer for Clinton's hair

NEW YORK • Martin Shkreli, the former pharmaceutical executive who is awaiting sentencing for a fraud conviction, was sent to jail on Wednesday after a federal judge revoked his bail because he had offered US$5,000 (S$6,700) for a strand of Mrs Hillary Clinton's hair.

Shkreli, who was free on US$5 million bail while he awaited sentencing, had made two Facebook posts offering cash to anyone who could "grab a hair" from Mrs Clinton during her book tour.


Feather proves rare bird lives in S. Australia

SYDNEY • A feather from one of the most elusive birds in the world has been found in South Australia, the first proof in more than a century that it lives there, wildlife experts said on Thursday.

The night parrot was thought extinct until an intrepid Australian naturalist provided photo evidence of one in Queensland state in 2013. It has since also been spotted in Western Australia.
