Netanyahu says Israel has ‘taken out’ Nasrallah’s successors

Israeli forces have killed the would-be successors of late Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Oct 8, without naming them.

“We’ve degraded Hezbollah’s capabilities. We took out thousands of terrorists, including Nasrallah himself and Nasrallah’s replacement, and the replacement of the replacement,” Netanyahu said in a pre-recorded video message.

Earlier, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said Hashem Safieddine, the man expected to replace the slain Nasrallah, had probably been “eliminated”. It was not immediately clear who Netanyahu meant by the “replacement of the replacement”.

Hurricane Milton could be Florida’s worst storm in a century: Biden

Hurricane Milton, the Category 4 storm headed toward the southeastern United States, could be the worst to hit Florida in a century, President Joe Biden said Oct 8.

“This could be the worst storm to hit Florida in over a century. God willing it won’t be, but that’s what it’s looking like right now,” Biden told reporters at the White House.

“You should evacuate now, now, now. You should have already evacuated. It’s a matter of life and death, and that’s not hyperbole,” he said as advisors briefed him on the storm.

Melania Trump tight-lipped as ever in new memoir

As first lady, Melania Trump was a cipher to Americans and now, with her husband weeks from possibly securing a return to the White House, her glossy memoir Melania still leaves more questions than answers.

The former model who immigrated from Slovenia and married then-Manhattan-playboy and tycoon Donald Trump in 2005 generated one big headline by using her 182-page book to reveal a strong pro-choice stand on abortion rights.

“A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” the former first lady writes. “Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body.”

Rented e-scooters set to vanish from Madrid streets

Operators of rental e-scooters will have until Oct 25 to remove all their mobility devices from the streets of Madrid, the mayor’s office said on Oct 8, following an outcry against reckless driving and chaotic parking by their users.

After withdrawing their licences last month, the mayor’s office said the three foreign operators - Lime, Dott and Tier Mobility - had failed to implement limits on their clients’ circulation or control their parking to regain the licences.

Amsterdam-based Dott, Germany’s Tier Mobility and US-based Lime, whose scooters are available via the Uber app, have around 2,000 e-scooters each throughout Madrid.

Tiafoe apologises for swearing at umpire in furious rant after loss in Shanghai

Frances Tiafoe has apologised for his foul-mouthed tirade directed at a chair umpire after the American received a time violation and then lost to Roman Safiullin in the third round of the Shanghai Masters on Oct 8.

Unseeded Safiullin beat 13th seed Tiafoe 5-7 7-5 7-6(5) in a three-hour contest where the American initially lost his cool when he received a time violation while serving with the score tied at 5-5 during the final set tiebreak.

“No, no, I tossed the ball up... I was ready to serve. Dude, that’s the rule,” Tiafoe said repeatedly as he walked towards the net while trying to convince the Ecuadorian chair umpire Jimmy Pinoargote.
