'Plane wreckage' found in Thailand fuels MH370 talk

A piece of suspected plane wreckage has been found off the coast of southern Thailand, a local official said on Saturday, prompting speculation it might belong to Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which vanished nearly two years ago.

A large piece of curved metal washed ashore in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, where villagers reported it to the authorities to help identify it, Tanyapat Patthikongpan, head of Pak Phanang district, told Reuters.

"Villagers found the wreckage, measuring about 2m wide and 3m long," he said.

Panda frolicking in snow goes viral

A video shared by the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington of its giant panda, Tian Tian, enjoying the snowy weather in the US has quickly gone viral.

"Tian Tian woke up this morning to a lot of snow, and he was pretty excited about it," the zoo said on Twitter.

The video was also posted on the Smithsonian's Facebook page on Saturday about 7.10am on Saturday morning and an hour later had already been viewed more than 1.2 million times and shared by more than 115,000 users.

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg may make independent bid for White House

Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York City, has told his aides to draw up plans for an independent campaign for the US presidency, the New York Times reported on Saturday.

Bloomberg has advised friends and associates that he would be willing to spend at least US$1 billion (S$1.4 billion) of his own money on a campaign for the November 2016 election.

Bloomberg, 73, has given himself an early March deadline for entering the race, the Times reported, after commissioning a poll to see how he would fare against frontrunners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp lost his glasses as he and his players jubilantly celebrated Adam Lallana's 95th-minute winner in Saturday's remarkable 5-4 victory at Norwich City.

Lallana slammed home deep into stoppage time at Carrow Road, four minutes after Sebastien Bassong had brought Norwich level, at the end of a frantic Premier League game in which Liverpool fought back from 3-1 down.

The England midfielder ran over to celebrate with Klopp on the touchline and with his team-mates piling in, the German's spectacles were knocked from his nose.

Tottenham Hotspur teenager Dele Alli scored a contender for goal of the season when he lifted the ball over his head and volleyed home as they came from behind to win 3-1 at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Alli's three-touch wonder goal drew admiration from around the world, with former Tottenham star Gareth Bale, now of Real Madrid, tweeting: "What a goal that is!"
