Cassini's 13-year Saturn mission ends

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Cassini probe is counting its final hours before a last plunge into Saturn today that will cap a fruitful 13-year mission that greatly expanded knowledge about the gas giant. While orbiting Saturn nearly 300 times, Cassini made major discoveries, such as the liquid methane seas of the planet's giant moon Titan and the sprawling sub-surface ocean of Enceladus, a small Saturn moon.

President to visit welfare group

President Halimah Yacob is visiting the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) today, in her first public engagement as President. Madam Halimah, who was previously Minister of State at the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sport, will observe how smaller volunteer welfare organisations such as APSN serve the needs of Singapore society.

Private home sales figures

Private home sales data for last month will be released today. The numbers will give analysts a better sense of whether the property market's emerging recovery is set to stay.

Private home sales this year have rebounded to levels not seen since 2013, with 10,565 new and resale private homes sold in the seven months to July 31, up from the 6,785 transacted in the same period last year, according to Urban Redevelopment Authority data.
