Defence ministers to discuss ISIS threat

The defence ministers of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore are meeting today in Tarakan, North Kalimantan, in Borneo to discuss the threat from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The meeting is expected to coincide with the launch of joint patrols in the seas south of the Philippines' Mindanao island that borders Malaysia and Indonesia.


Conference on fake news

A two-day conference on the rise of fake news in Asia and how to combat it will kick off today.

Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam will be speaking at the event, called Keep It Real: Truth And Trust In The Media.

The event will be held at the Singapore Management University's new School of Law building.


Students debating key issues at event

A conference that allows students to role-play as representatives from committees and councils in Singapore to debate racial and religious harmony issues begins today.

The three-day event, called the OnePeople.sg Model United Nations, will have students involved in simulated groups like one for the Presidential Council for Minority Rights.
