Putin visiting China

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives today in China for a three-day state visit and will attend the Qingdao Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation this weekend.

Underscoring China's close ties with Russia, Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to award Mr Putin the country's first friendship medal. The Xinhua news agency said Mr Xi will give out the medal this afternoon at the Great Hall of the People.


Great Singapore Sale begins

The Great Singapore Sale launches today and will last until Aug 12.

The sale, which is into its 25th year, is organised by the Singapore Retailers Association and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board and UnionPay.


Porsche holds charity gala dinner

To mark Porsche's 70th anniversary and Porsche Club Singapore's 30th anniversary, Porsche will be holding a special charity gala dinner, and a portion of the ticket money will be donated to The Straits Times Pocket Money Fund. A charity auction will be held during the gala dinner at Shangri-La Hotel today, with all proceeds from items sold donated to The Straits Times Pocket Money Fund.
