New leader seeks vote of confidence

The new chief minister in the key southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Mr Edappadi K. Palaniswami, is seeking a vote of confidence from legislators in the state assembly today.

Mr Palaniswami must prove his majority on the floor of the house within 15 days to cement his new position, after a weeks-long tussle over succession marked by bitter infighting.

SpaceX to launch cargo mission

SpaceX is set to launch a cargo mission on a Falcon 9 rocket today, five months after another rocket in the family of Falcon 9 launch vehicles exploded during preparation for take-off.

The latest mission, setting off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, will carry a Dragon supply ship to the International Space Station, if weather permits. The launch could take place at about 11pm Singapore time.

Raising awareness of cancer

Cancer survivors, caregivers and supporters are coming together this weekend to celebrate what they have overcome, remember those they have lost and fight back against cancer, in the Singapore Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

The relay run aims to raise awareness about cancer prevention and early detection.
