US transgender teen wants to be school prom king

RED LION, Pennsylvania (AP) - A transgender teenager running for prom king at a US high school is upset because he's listed instead for prom queen.

The York Dispatch and the York Daily Record newspapers report that 18-year-old Issak Wolfe is campaigning to be named king of his prom, the traditional end-of-year dance for US students in their last year of high school.

The newspaper report that friends discovered Wolfe was listed by his birth name, Sierra Stambaugh, among the candidates for prom queen.

Wolfe says he's in therapy and plans to undergo a physical transition. He acknowledges he's enrolled at Red Lion Senior High School under his birth name and says school officials are good people who made a bad decision. School officials have declined to comment.
