US leader skips Germany on trip to Europe, in further sign of declining ties between the allies

It would have been easy for President Donald Trump to plan a stop in Germany, one of the closest allies of the United States.

Either on his way to the Group of Seven meeting in French Biarritz last Saturday, or when going to Poland for a ceremony next Sunday commemorating 80 years since the beginning of World War II.
