Security Council to meet over N. Korea

The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting today over North Korea's latest missile test. The meeting, which was called by Washington, Seoul and Tokyo, is likely to deliberate on measures to rein in a defiant Pyongyang, but Beijing and Moscow are likely to prevent the adoption of any concrete resolution on North Korea.

Maritime defence show opens today

The biennial International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (Imdex) Asia opens today, with a record showing of maritime defence and naval forces.

The three-day maritime defence show, held at the Changi Exhibition Centre, will feature 28 foreign warships from 20 navies, along with 230 participating companies from 29 countries.

Key US data for April out today

Two key US economic figures will be out today, with the release of the Commerce Department's housing starts and the Federal Reserve's industrial production for April.

Investors expect housing-start numbers in the United States to have risen to 1.26 million units last month from 1.22 million units in March, while industrial production is projected to have slowed to 0.3 per cent from 0.5 per cent in the previous month.
