Stakes high for GOP in Georgia election

The American state of Georgia will hold a special congressional election today, seen as a test for President Donald Trump's administration as Democratic enthusiasm soars across the country.

The stakes are highest for Republicans, who have held the 6th congressional district since the Carter administration without much of a challenge to speak of. But Republicans there are uneasy about what they see in Washington.

New sound studio at Republic Poly

A new studio at Republic Polytechnic that allows students to recreate sounds for films opens today.

The Foley Arts Studio is a facility for the polytechnic's diploma in sonic arts students to design industry-quality sounds for movies and broadcast content.

Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim is the event's guest of honour.

Australia Q1 housing prices data out

Australia will release first-quarter data on housing prices today. The figures will likely be closely watched by market observers, as Moody's Investors Service yesterday cut the long-term credit rating of the country's four biggest banks, saying surging home prices, rising household debt and sluggish wage growth pose a threat to the lenders.
