WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democratic presidential front runner Hillary Clinton fired off an icy rebuke to her rival Donald Trump after he savaged her record upon accepting the Republican nomination for president.

"We are better than this," tweeted Mrs Clinton.

Her one-line tweet came midway through a sweeping acceptance speech in which Mr Trump attacked the former secretary of state for a legacy of "death, destruction, terrorism and weakness."
