NEW YORK (AFP) - The wake for a second New York police officer shot dead by an assassin this month will be held Saturday, the funeral home said.
Mourners will be able to pay tribute to Wenjian Liu at Aievoli Funeral Home in Brooklyn starting Saturday from 1pm (2am Singapore time on Sunday), and he will be buried the following day, the centre told AFP on Monday.
Liu, 32, and fellow officer Rafael Ramos, 40, were shot in the head as they sat in their patrol car in broad daylight in Brooklyn on Dec 20.
Police said shooter Ismaaiyl Brinsley had a clear anti-police bias and posted Instagram comments that were anti-government and referenced two unarmed black men killed recently by police.
Ramos' funeral was held in Queens, New York on Saturday, and was attended by more than 20,000 police officers from across the United States.
Vice-President Joe Biden said the double murder was felt by the whole country.
"When an assassin's bullet targeted two officers, it targeted this city. And it touched the soul of the entire nation," Biden said at the funeral.
Liu is of Chinese heritage and several relatives are expected to travel from China for the service.
