WASHINGTON – The deal struck by Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy last weekend to raise the debt ceiling and avert the United States defaulting on its debt represents a victory for each leader.

It also marks a triumph for bipartisanship, signalling that Washington’s two main parties can still come together to work out solutions to national problems that would have sent shockwaves around the globe if left unresolved.
