United States President Donald Trump is holding his cards close to his chest even as he praises his friend, China's President Xi Jinping, for being a "world-class poker player".

Mr Xi has met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un twice in recent weeks and may be playing a behind-the-scenes role in the upcoming summit in Singapore between Mr Trump and Mr Kim.
