US President Donald Trump put pressure on lawmakers yesterday to break a Budget impasse that had led to a government shutdown since midnight last Friday.

Mr Trump said that his Republican colleagues should "use the 'Nuclear Option' to change the rules of the Senate", so funding can be restored to keep the government running.

The shutdown has affected government employees, the military and tourists. US troops are working without pay, while thousands of civilian employees are furloughed. Some tourist sites are also shut.
