US President Donald Trump's hardline policy on immigration and against refugees, in general, will be emboldened by the latest Supreme Court ruling to uphold his travel ban on people from Iran, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Somalia, Venezuela and North Korea.

Tuesday's decision also reflects the far-reaching impact of the tilting of the scales towards the conservative - one of the most critical aspects of Mr Trump's and the Republican Party's longer-term agenda - achieved with the appointment of Justice Neil Gorsuch in April last year, three months after the President assumed office.
