Sinophobia on the rise in US, but pragmatism will rein it in

As hawks call for boycott, others note US-China interdependence

Just days ago, Fox News host Laura Ingraham - a prominent right-wing amplifier whose show ranked fourth among the top 10 cable news programmes last year - suggested that the United States boycott China. Ms Ingraham acknowledged that the suggestion was provocative. But she had a chorus.

Guest pundit author Gordon Chang provided a long list of China's more egregious practices, including the internment of Uighurs, and advocated that the US push back more broadly and robustly against China.
