WASHINGTON - It may take days for the final results of Tuesday’s midterm elections to emerge and decide the political make-up of the United States Congress; in some cases, run-offs may be necessary.
The Republican Party needs to make a net gain of just five seats to reach 218 seats – the number needed for a majority in the 435-seat House of Representatives. By 8am Wednesday morning in Washington (midnight in Singapore), the party was edging towards that, having won 201 seats, as called by CNN. The Democratic Party had 182 wins in the pocket.
