Former US vice-president Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders are barrelling into today's Super Tuesday Democratic primaries with the field of candidates narrowed following the departure of former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg - and it looks increasingly like a two-horse race.

Mr Buttigieg, the wunderkind of the Democratic slate and the first openly gay man to run for US president, finished a disappointing fourth in last Saturday's South Carolina primary and is now expected to throw his weight behind Mr Biden.
