In Pictures: El Nino-strengthened storms hit California
A procession of storms pushing across the Pacific is bringing at least five days of rain and snow to California, a bit of relief for a state sapped by four years of drought. The storms are the first of a weather pattern expected to bring above-average rainfall to California over the next few months. It is linked to an unusually strong El Nino, a warming in the Pacific Ocean that alters weather around the world.
