The event is held a day after Thanksgiving, which falls on the fourth Thursday of November, and is when many stores have special offers.

Retailers in the United States often look to Black Friday as a chance to chalk up profits prior to Christmas. But this tradition has, in recent years, been pushed earlier to Thanksgiving evening.
