WASHINGTON - Amid the skirl of a single bagpipe in a cold thin drizzle in Modesto, California last Saturday (Jan 5), the body of 33-year-old police officer Ronil Singh was cremated after a sombre memorial service.

The day after Christmas, Corporal Singh, was shot dead after stopping a suspected drunken driver, a man from Mexico involved in gangs. The man was an illegal immigrant who had been living in the United States after crossing the border through the Arizona desert.
