Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took aim at the political press at a news conference in New York, saying, 'I think the political press is among the most dishonest people that I have ever met.'

NEW YORK (Reuters) - In announcing the details of an effort to raise millions of dollars for veterans, Donald Trump pointed to a reporter and said, "What I don't want, is when I raise millions of dollars, have people say, like this sleazy guy from right over here from ABC, he's a sleaze, you are a sleaze because you know the facts and you know the facts well."

He said if the stories are false, "I am going to continue to attack the press."

Mr Trump said on Tuesday (May 31) that all of the nearly US$6 million (S$8.26 million) he raised for veterans groups has been "paid out".

At a news conference held to announce the recipients of the donations, Mr Trump said he gave a million dollars to that effort, which he announced four months ago when he hosted a fundraiser for veteran groups.
