In the dark of night on March 13 in the city of Louisville, Kentucky, police officers on a drug raid used a battering ram to enter the apartment of Ms Breonna Taylor, an emergency medical technician, who was asleep at the time with her boyfriend beside her.
The officers exchanged gunfire with Ms Taylor's boyfriend, who had a licence to carry a firearm and believed them to be intruders.
